Hey Iditarod Friends,
Have any of you read the book Into the Wild? It is coming out as a movie in the next week or so or maybe the weekend. I think it is going to be awesome as it is about a young man who dropped everthing to go to Alaska by way of foot. He made it and nearly survived but died. I hope you can catch the movie I am or read the true story.
Hope all is well with everyone.
Tee

Hey, Tee - they were filming the movie in Denali the summer before last while we were there - we missed Sean Penn by 1 day on our float trip! The company we took the trip with worked with the film crew just the day before we floated!
We also missed Laura Bush and the twins by a couple of days. They had just left when we got there.
You never know who you'll run into....
I'm looking into getting the book...I'm not familiar with the movie but I'm going to see if I can see it.

I found the book. It's written by Jon Krakeur (ap?). He also wrote "Into Thin Air" which is an EXCELLENT book about a Mt. Everest climb. I ordered "Into the Wild"...can't wait to read it. I remember the story being in the news...
When we were there the raft trip guide told us the guy ended up in an abandoned bus trying to get out of the cold, he was sick and had no supplies. His family supposedly to this day keeps that bus stocked with food and other survival supplies, just in case someone else ever needs it. I guess the guy was from a very wealthy family and decided to give up everything to go live in the wild, but was not prepared for what he was getting into. Should be a good book and movie.
I forgot all about "Into the Wild" until all the hoopla started with the release of the movie - it is a wonderful book. I'm so glad Sean Penn was able to convince the family to let him make the film... can't wait to see it!
Came across a new book, "Backstage Iditarod" by June Price (pics of Diane in it!)Everything about the race from the inside out- great read and good info. Put out by Sunhusky Productions but I got it on Amazon.
I saw part of the Penn interview with Charlie Rose and the CBS Sunday Morning program had a spot on the show. How interesting! I can't wait to see the show and read the book. It is an intriguing story.
I hope everyone is doing well!
