Jane
Anyone else have a book they are reading or know of something to watch on TV to get yourself into the "I'm going to an Iditarod conference in Alaska" mood?A week ago, I made the whole family watch the movie: IRON WILL.
Have you read WINTERDANCE by Gary Paulsen?
What is your FAVORTIE Iditarod/Alaska book?

"Race Across Alaska" by Libby Riddles
"Alone Across the Arctic" by Pam Flowers
"Adventures of the Iditarod Air Force" by Ted Mattson
"Shadows of the Koyukuk" by Sydney Huntington
"No End in Sight" by Rachel Scdoris
"Back of the Pack" by Don Bowers
Also, Sydney's brother has a book about their life and looking at the excerpts, it looks very well-written and easy to read.
I'm really into kids picture books, and I have a huge bibliography of books I plan to give to our school librarian (after I see how many I find myself while there). I will bring it to share. I have created several projects around the book "Berry Magic" by Teri Sloat. I'm really interested in finding info on the native cultures of Alaska.
I made a connection with a vet from KC who volunteerd on the trail and he came to school to make a presentation of his video and experiences. He has recommented the book "The Cruelest Miles" which is about the original serum run. The bookstores here don't seem to carry it, so I guess I'll have to order it. Seems like the perfect airplane reading!
Debbie,
Is the vet you know Dr. Otte from State Line Animal Hospital? I met him in the lobby of the Millenium last spring and he said he'd share stories with my students. I'm wondering if it's him?
